COMPONENTS OF FIRE SYSTEMS

FIRE HYDRANT SYSTEM

1. Diesel Engine Driven Standby Pump

The standby diesel engine driven pump set is proposed so that in case of power failure during emergency, this pump set can be operated.

The pump set would be driven by a diesel engine which should develop at least 20% more power than that required by the pump over the entire range of operation and not restricting to 150% of the duty point.

The pump set should be erected on anti-vibration mounting and not grouted.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/DEDSP/01.

2. Electric Motor Driven Jockey Pump

The jockey pump set is utilized to maintain the system pressure over a range.

Due to small leakages either through the gland of the valves etc., the system pressure falls and once the system pressure falls below a certain level, the jockey pump starts and stop when the pressure loss is compensated.

The pump set would be driven by a electrically operated motor which should develop at least 15% more power than that required by the pump over the entire range of operation and not restricting to 150% of the duty point.

The pump set should be erected on anti-vibration mounting and not grouted.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/JP/01.

3. Electric Motor Driven Fire Pump

In case power is available during emergency or if generator power is available as a dedicated supply to run it.

No. OBS/EMDP/01.

4. Fire Brigade Inlet (3 – Way)

The Fire Brigade Connector is used by fire brigade authorities to pump in water from external sources so that water can be pumped in into the system at a requisite pressure to enable fire fighting operations.

The connectors should be S.S.A C.I. Gate Valve along with a C.I. Non-Return Valve of dia. 150 mm will have to be installed below the Fire Brigade Connector, so that line pressure is not reduced due to leakages.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/FBI/01.

5. Flow Switch

The Flow Switch is used to notice any movement of water / fluid in the pipeline.

The Flow Switch sends the signal to the annunciation panel whenever it senses a movement of water fluid in the pipeline.

The Flow Switch should be supplied with suitable dia meter of clapper for the appropriate diameter of pipeline in the sprinkler pipe.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/FS/01.

6. Sprinkler

The Sprinkler is used to sense fire and at the same time extinguish the fire over the affected zone / seat of fire.

The Sprinkler should be UL listed.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/SPRL/01.

7. Co2 type Fire Extinguisher

The Co2 type Fire Extinguisher is used to extinguish the small fire over the affected zone.

This type of extinguisher is suitable to use for fire in petrol, oil, paints, thinner, spirits, flammable gases, electrical fire, electricity and electrical appliances.

It should be ISI marked.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/FEX/CO2/01.

8. Mechanical Foam type Fire Extinguisher

The Mechanical Foam type Fire Extinguisher is used to extinguish the small fire over the affected zone.

This type of extinguisher is suitable to use for fire in paper, wood, clothes and plastics only.

It should be ISI marked.

For other details refer to PAGE 2 of the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/MFEX/02.

9. DCP type Fire Extinguisher

The DCP type Fire Extinguisher is used to extinguish the small fire over the affected zone.

This type of extinguisher is suitable to use for fire in petrol, oil, paints, thinner, spirits, flammable gases, electrical fire, magnesium, sodium, potassium, electricity and electrical appliances.

It should be ISI marked.

For other details refer to PAGE 3 of the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/DCPFEX/03.

10. Water Co2 type Fire Extinguisher

The Water Co2 type Fire Extinguisher is used to extinguish the small fire over the affected zone.

This type of extinguisher is suitable to use for fire in paper, wood, clothes and plastics etc.

It should be ISI marked.

For other details refer to PAGE 4 of the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/WCO2/FEX/04.

11. Hose Reel Drum Assembly

The Hose Reel is used to extinguish small fires and aptly called as first aid equipment.

After noticing a fire anyone can draw the rubber hose and get it next to the fire and open the shut off nozzle to extinguish a small fire. 30 M of ISI marked rubber hose should be supplied. The Drum should be powder coated. The nozzle should be ABS plastic.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/HRDA/01.

12. Branch Pipe with nozzle

It is attached / coupled to the hose coupling to direct the water jet to the seat of fire. It should be made of S.S.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/BRPN/01.

13. Hose Box, RRL Hose & Hose Coupling

Hose box is used to house the hoses (2nos.) and branch pipe with nozzle.

Hose pipe and nozzle are used to connect the hydrant valve so that it can be used to direct the water to the seat of fire.

The hoses should be RRL (636, Type II) . The couplings should be S.S.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/HBC/01.

14. Pressure Switch

This is used to sense the pressure in the system. It should be INDFOSS /Dan Foss make. The model should be RT – 116.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/PW/01.

15. Y- Strainer

This is used to remove if any higher sized. Particles are anticipated in suction line.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/YSTR/01.

16. Pressure Gauge

This is to check the status of the Pressure in the system.

For other details refer the Data Sheet Doc. No. OBS/PG/01.
